WHY SHOULD I ROTATE MY TIRES?
Did you ever wonder why you are supposed to rotate your tires? And why is it that some people tell you that tires should be rotated every 5,000 miles while others say up to every 10,000 miles? What is the real story?
Your car is unevenly weighted. Meaning, the front of your car is heavier than the back of your car due to the fact that your engine is in the front of your car, except, of course, if you are driving a fancy, British import where the engine is in the rear of the car. That means there is more weight bearing down on the front tires. In addition to the extra weight on the front tires, your front tires are also responsible for steering your car. That is a lot more friction on the pavement. Over time, these two factors alone will help increase the wear on your front tires faster than on the back tires.
When you rotate your tires, you are helping to make sure that your tires are worn down at the same time so your tires have an equal amount of tread depth on them and so you won’t have to replace your tires as soon.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I ROTATE MY TIRES?
As with anything related to your car, the answer usually depends on several factors including what kind of vehicle you drive, your driving habits and even the kind of tires you have on your vehicle. Your Fox River Tire & Auto tire professional can help you determine the best tire rotation schedule for you. Generally, however, for most people who simply use their car to get from one place to another, to and from work and around town, we recommend that you should rotate your tires every 8,000 – 10,000 miles.
CAN I ROTATE MY TIRES TOO MUCH?
The only reason why you would not want to rotate your tires frequently is that most car repair and tire shops will charge you to rotate your tires. However, in addition to a great selection of tires for your car, van, SUV or light truck, when you purchase at Fox River Tire & Auto, your tire rotations are always free.

If you want to manage your car care yourself, a good general rule for when to rotate your tires is to rotate your tires every second oil change. That usually works out to every 6,000-8,000 miles depending on how often your particular vehicle manufacturer recommends an oil change.
Tire rotations are very important to increase the life of your tires and to help identify early warning signs of other tire related issues such as alignment issues or tire damage.
