Oil Change, St. Charles, IL omart
YOUR CAR’S MOST FREQUENTLY NEEDED SERVICE
An oil change is an essential part of the regular maintenance on your car, truck or SUV. It is very important that the oil you use in your vehicle meets or exceeds your vehicle manufacturer’s specifications. Using the wrong or low quality oil will reduce the lifespan of key engine components and could damage your engine.
That is why at Fox River Tire & Auto Repair, we follow your manufacturer’s recommendation on WHEN to change your oil and WHAT KIND of oil your engine requires.
Oil is one of the most important ‘parts’ of an engine. Oil reduces friction and wear on your engine and helps regulate the extreme heat inside the engine and helps keeps contaminants and particles from damaging your engine.

Semi-Synthetic or Full-Synthetic?
Most cars do very well with a synthetic blend oil. The oil is less expensive than conventional oil and provides a consistent and superior performance over their conventional counterpart. Semi-synthetic motor oils can better handle the extreme heat that your engine produces. They also do not have any of the impurities that are found in conventional oils or breakdown as quickly. They are also thinner in consistency which helps improve fuel efficiency.
We follow your manufacturer’s requirements and only use the oil that is recommended for your vehicle. If you are unsure of what kind of oil is best for your vehicle, we will let you know and remind you when your next oil change is due.
SEMI-SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGE
Semi synthetic oils are cheaper than fully synthetic as they are a mixture of synthetic and mineral oil. Engines requiring semi synthetic oil must use at least semi synthetic oil (not mineral oil) but may benefit from upgrading to fully synthetic oil for increased protection and performance.
FULL SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGE
As the name suggests, fully synthetic oils are purely synthetic with no mineral oil. They offer the highest levels of performance and are an essential requirement for many modern engines (check your handbook if you’re unsure of the requirement for your car).
During EVERY OIL CHANGE, we replace the oil filter and provide a courtesy-check of your vehicle’s major systems to make sure everything looks in order.
DRIVE A DIESEL?
Vehicles with a diesel engine have different needs when it comes to oil and oil changes. Visit our DIESEL REPAIR, MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGEpage to learn more about diesel engine maintenance and diesel oil changes.
Changing your oil regularly is the single most important thing you can do for your car.
It keeps your engine protected and helps prevent engine breakdown and failures.
WHEN SHOULD I CHANGE MY OIL?
It depends. Most manufacturers still recommend an oil change every 3,000 miles or every 3 months. But some manufacturers recommend it less often.
We follow the recommendations of your vehicle manufacturer so we can provide your car with the best possible protection for your engine.
WHAT DOES ENGINE OIL REALLY DO?
Oil is a lubricant that keeps your engine cool and the moving parts like your valve train, bearings, piston rings and cylinders moving smoothly. When parts rub together, they cause heat and they can wear down.
Since oil breaks down over time, missing an oil change can lead to premature engine wear and eventual engine breakdown.
DO I NEED TO CHANGE MY OIL FILTER TOO?
As oil circulates through your car’s engine, the oil filter catches all the sludge, grime and dirt particles that is carried in the oil. If you change your oil but don’t change your oil filter, all that junk goes back into your clean oil.
We change your oil filter with every oil change to make sure your car’s oil is as clean as it can be.
If you’re not sure when your last oil change was or what is the best kind of oil for your car, talk to us. We’ll let you know what your vehicle manufacturer recommends and we’ll even remind you when your next oil change is with our SERVICE REMINDER PROGRAM.
